
ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØhosts ILMEA Jazz-Prep Day on Aug. 20
ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØ's (SXU) Department of Music will host ILMEA Jazz-Prep Day on Saturday, August 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the University's Chicago campus, 3700 West 103rd Street. This event is open to all high school students interested in auditioning for the ILMEA Senior Band on Friday, October 21.
Students will work with ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØfaculty and guests on the 2016 ILMEA audition material including:
- State Line Strut – ILMEA required selection; sectionals with faculty members
- Billie's Bounce – Jazz Improvisation piece; improvisation clinics with ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØjazz faculty
- Jim Snidero Jazz Etude Cycle 1 "Friends"
Participants will conduct sight-reading with members of the ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØJazz Ensemble. Mock auditions with ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØfaculty and will be recorded and emailed to students. Bass and guitar amps will be provided, but students are welcome to use their own equipment if preferred. Drummers only need to bring sticks, as drum-set and cymbals will be provided.
The cost is $10 of either cash or check to "ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµÏÂÔØMusic Department" and includes lunch.
